Your questions answered

Where can I find GeniePoint chargers?

All of our public chargers can be found on our live map.

What are the costs?

The costs to use our public chargers can be found on our pricing page.

Can I register by telephone?

We ask you to register on line to ensure the accurate capture of data.  Just click here to register in a few easy steps.

What is an RFID card?

RFID stands for Radio Frequency IDentification.  Our access cards contain an RFID chip which is uniquely linked to your account.  You can use your RFID card to start and stop your charge.  An RFID card is recommended for times when you have low battery on your phone or if there are mobile signal interruptions.

How do I know how much my charge will cost?

The costs to use GeniePoint chargers are clearly displayed on our pricing page.  After every charge session, you will receive a receipt which will outline the cost, duration of your charge session and energy consumed in kWh.  You can also check your charge session history when you are logged in to your account.

If you charged your vehicle on our fast charger and consumed 12 kW of energy, this will cost you:

One off connection fee:     £0.50
Energy:                                  £3.60 (12kW x £0.30p)
Total cost:                             £4.10

Depending on your style of driving you should expect to get anywhere between 3.5 – 4 miles per kW.

Who do I contact for help or to report a problem?

Please contact our customer helpline on 020 3598 4087, it is open 24/7, or you can e-mail us if your query is less urgent.

Can I use your chargers without a GeniePoint RFID card?

Yes, but you will need to register for a GeniePoint account.  Once registered, you can start your charge from our map using your smartphone or register your own existing RFID card.  If you already have an account, login to your account and click “My RFID Cards”, then select “Register an existing RFID card”.

I have registered for an RFID card but it hasn’t arrived.

Please allow up to 5 working days for your card to arrive in the post.  Beyond 5 working days, please contact us. Please remember that you can still start a charge using your smartphone.

Can I add my own RFID card to my GeniePoint account?

You can register any existing RFID card on the GeniePoint network.  To Register a card, take your card to your nearest charger on the GeniePoint Network.  Once at the charger follow these instructions:

  1. login to your GeniePoint account
  2. Go to the Map
  3. Click on the charger you are located at
  4. Present the RFID or contactless card to the charger
    1. You will receive a message “Access Denied” or similar
  5. Wait for 30-60 seconds for the card to register on your mobile device, then click the button “To use this card click here”
  6. Select the card type and click “Register Card”
  7. Your card is now registered for use on the GeniePoint Network

Do I have to pay for parking when charging my vehicle?

Our chargers are often located on ‘host’ sites (such as council owned car parks).  It is the host that decides whether parking fees apply whilst charging.  Most site owners will grant you free parking, but it is very important that you read the on-site signs to make sure you understand their policy.

Neither ChargePoint Services or the host will accept any responsibility if you are issued with a penalty charge notice for non-payment of parking charges.

Overstay Fees will apply if you are charging for over 1 hour on a Rapid charger or over 4 hours on a Fast charger.

What is the overstay fee?

The overstay fee of £10.00 is implemented when your vehicle is connected to a rapid charger for over an hour; and for each subsequent hour that you are connected to the charger.  The £10.00 fee for fast chargers is implemented when you are connected for over 4 hours and each subsequent 4 hours that you are connected to the charger.  This is merely to ensure that the charger is available for the next customer to use once you have finished charging. It also deters users who need to charge because the chargers will be shown as being in use on the live map.

How do I close my GeniePoint account?

If you wish to close your GeniePoint account, please email us geniesupport@chargepointservices.com.  Please note that any refund of your balance will be subject to a £5.00 minimum administrative fee, as detailed in our T & Cs.

“Reassuring”

Thank you to ChargePoint Services, it was a relief to speak to one of your operators who helped us find a reliable and working Charging station. Important as I had an eight month old baby in the back and she really appreciated my situation.
